served in the 1347th AAFBU with you in WWII as a C-109 Pilot. His plane
was lost while flying over the hump on July 30, 1945. I was wondering if
you might remember anything about him or about the incident. The other
members of his crew were Gordon Tucker on Wisconsin, Forrest Craig of
Illinois, and Richard Gilmore of California. Another curiosity is that
my Grandfather (on my Mother’s side) was also a Pilot of a C-109 in the
1347th AAFBU, John Eilers. What a coincidence that my Mother and Father
were not even born yet and their Father and Uncle were serving alongside
each other. One made it and the other didn’t. Thanks for anything you
can recall. God bless all of you who served in WWII and thanks for your
service to the nation.

Mike's last name with an "N", but I believe that the spelling of Mike's

- I am the web editor for the China National Aviation Corporation
(CNAC).
I am trying to locate anyone that might have information
regarding one of CNAC's Maintenance Department Employees who worked,
probably in China, during the 1940s. What little I know about this
person, Mike Neuchel/Meuchel can be found here:
http://www.cnac.org/neuchel01.htm The only record I have spells
Mike's last name with an "N", but I believe that the spelling of Mike's
last name is probably "Meuchel". I believe this is a good possibility as
there are no "Neuchel's" listed in the United States, but there a many
"Meuchel's" listed.
Additional information about me can be found
here: http://www.cnac.org/webeditor01.htm |

- (former WA8PGB) I was floored to stumble into this site. My dad
(Robert - Bob)was a Hump R/O from Cleveland Ohio, ham W8APL, and surely
would have been a member of this group. He ran a RACES net operation in
the Detroit area in the 50's and early 60's. He died when I was 14(1966)
and he didn't talk alot about the experience, but I know it was some of
the best and worst of his life (especially being seriously injured and
missing). If any of you knew my dad, please contact me. It would be good
to know anything about him. Some of him rubbed off. I was a ham for many
years (but let it lapse some years ago) and I own and fly my own

site. I
was a Pilot first in the 19th Liaison Squadron at Kunming then at
Paoshan. Later I flew C-47's in the 27th Troop Carrier Squadron
based at Yunnani and Chengkung. I am still a HAM but not active.
Would like to hear from some of the old gang. |

- Tony Strotman told me about this site. The first thing I read is a
story about hauling mules from the 1348th AAFBU at Myitkyina, Burma to
China. Sent the author an email to find out his name - I was a squadron
mate and also flew mules to China more than once and hauled a lot of the
Chinese 6th Army to China. What a life! I even flew with the samr Radio
Operator at least once!
